Little Happies: Great Television and New Friends

June 9, 2014

Howdy folks! This week it’s back to me for the Little Happies of the week.

Thinking about little happies this week is vital since I had a emotional breakdown about infertility a few days ago. This is nothing new but it had been a while. For the first time possibly EVER in our marriage, I ovulated last cycle. Finally!!!! But of course, no baby. For the 32nd cycle in a row. I didn’t really have hope…until I saw about 100 Facebook pregnancy announcements and decided maybe I could let myself hope.

Wrong again.

OK, done being negative. It’s too exhausting.

Even though we aren’t experiencing the blessing of parenthood, God is still faithful and good to us. That will never change, despite our circumstances. He truly does send little blessings our way each day for which I am truly grateful.

dr quinn

Yes, that is Dr. Quinn Medicine Woman.

Don’t judge me.

This past year I have been watching Dr. Quinn season by season on YouTube. I love this series, as cheesy as it may be. I find myself relating to Doctor Michaela Quinn quite often. Maybe it’s her love of medicine. Or her inability to keep her opinions to herself. Perhaps it’s her tendency for drama and her stubborn nature. All I know is that we would have been friends…had she been a real person and/or we lived in the same time period.

Do  yourself a favor and watch an episode soon.

We are in the adoption paperwork home stretch!!! Above is a photo of us sitting down to write up our Autobiographies!!!! WHAT?!!??! I never thought I would be writing one of those.

As we wrote it out, I sort of thought it would probably be great if ALL parents had to do what we’ve had to do for adoption. It can be tedious but it’s really forced us to think things through, analyze our motivations, reflect on our past, and anticipate changes in our life. Good stuff for parenthood prep!

Now we need to print a few documents, gather a couple more signatures, and we will be done! We will be waiting on the FBI background check to clear which could take 4-6 more weeks but at least we’ll be ready when they’re done.

Also, we are also SUPER excited about a fundraiser we will be launching soon. Stay tuned! 🙂

I am privileged to work for FOCUS Greek, a ministry to Fraternity and Sorority students within the apostolate of FOCUS – Fellowship of Catholic University Students.

Currently many of our FOCUS staff members are in Ave Maria, FL at our New Staff Training – NST. Above is a photo of staff receiving training on working with students in Greek life on campus. I myself wasn’t present, as there were many qualified and stellar staff already in attendance at NST in Florida who offered to train others on behalf of the FOCUS Greek department. They did a super great job and seeing this photo made me happy! 🙂

They also threw a ‘Murica themed FOCUS Greek All Staff Party. Of course the first theme party at New Staff Training would be sponsored by FOCUS Greek. We do parties with Jesus better than anyone else.

band of bros

We started watching Band of Brothers.

Really intense but well done.

It’s a little happy but at the same time enraging. Anytime I think about WWII I get infuriated over the loss of life. That’s an entirely different blog post though.

We have a closing date for our town house! We close on June 30th and take possession on July 3rd. Anyone in Denver with a servant’s heart who wants to help us move that weekend, let me know! 🙂

google_plus_2This week I made some new friends on Google Hangouts.

I am part of a Catholic infertility support group on Facebook and one gal had a brilliant idea to form small groups for us to “meet” online with gals in similar situations as ourselves. I was actually having a rough day, as mentioned earlier, until I “hung out” with these ladies on Friday evening. They really made my day and I am so grateful for their new friendships in my life.

Thank you technology!

Stack Of Cash

Last but not least.

Since we are moving and need a few items for the town house (while in the midst of saving for adoption)  we have been selling a LOT of stuff to offset house expenses.

Call me the queen of eBay and Craigslist because this past week we sold about 15-20 items for roughly $900!!! Woohoo! With those proceeds we have bought a few items already and gotten some really great deals. As Jonathan talked about last week, we will devote an entire post as to how we did it! 🙂

Have a great week!

I am so sorry you had a rough day and broke down 🙁 I’m so glad you have a community online to support you though. It is so so important. I love all the other positives you posted about especially your progress on the adoption paperwork. The biography part was the hardest for me! Great job for getting so much done and so quickly! We just sent off our profile book to the printer so they should start showing those to expectant mothers soon! We’ve enjoyed having the FOCUS peeps here in Ave. Mass is always so packed (it’s usually really empty in the summer time). Just nice to have lots of young practicing Catholics here on campus. Hope you have a wonderful week!

Hi! I have been meaning to email you since we will be coming down to Ave Maria in two weeks for a very short visit. We will be in town June 26-27th. Will you be around at that time? I’m glad you have enjoyed having FOCUS staff down in Ave. I do miss being at our training but with adoption and house stuff, it’s best for all parties involved that we are not there for it’s entirety. I do hope I get to meet you on the brief stint in town though.

I’m happy to hear about your adoption profile getting ready to be shown! EEP! 🙂 Do you know if they have any mothers working with them currently looking for an adoptive family? I guess we could be doing that fairly soon as well, once home study approved.

Oh, I’m so glad you let me know you’ll be in town! I will definitely be around! My husband is going to be in Steubenville at Dr. Hahn’s conference for PhD students but I think he might get back around the 27th. I’ll have to double check. It’d be nice to get together as a “couple.” Do you know if you guys would be free to come over for dinner, maybe? (not sure what your schedule will be like).

I think that makes total since that you guys are not in Ave for the entire time with all you have going on! It even sounds like last summer was not the best time to be in Ave either with all the blood work/medical stuff you had going on! BTW congrats on the new house!! Super exciting! My husband is a huge Dave Ramsey fan…I was showing him some of your posts, very helpful!

I’m so excited about our profile! Our agency also posts our profiles to the website but they’ve been having issues lately and ours isn’t up yet. I keep checking every hour or so to see if it’s up yet! haha I didn’t ask but I am pretty sure they are currently working with expectant mothers. A few weeks ago we got a call about twins (I was so excited!!) but when we got the email that we were not chosen, our social worker told us that they had “many other cases coming in.” So I guess that’s good news!

Let me know if you want to take a look at our profile book once you start working on yours. Stephanie (from Blessed to Be) was really kind in sending me hers to look at as an example and it was super helpful. Hope you’re having a Happy Monday!

Congratulations on getting to the home stretch of your adoption paperwork. I have heard it is intimidating. I am excited to start the “paper pregnancy” after we move into our new house. Does your agency provide any idea how long the whole process should take?

    • Reply Amanda Teixeira June 9, 2014 at 2:57 pm

Our agency doesn’t give standard timelines…they told us it could be years but that couples have also gone on “the list” and been chosen a day later. Once we are in the pool of potential adoptees, there is no order they show profiles. It’s all up to birthmom from that point on and who she connects with the most via profiles and photos. We’re praying God will lead someone right to us but are preparing to wait a long time. You would think i would be good at waiting, having already waited years on end working through infertility…but no, I am no better at waiting than I ever used to be. All I know is that the way in which we become parents will be 100% outside of our control. Accepting that brings me peace, since I can simply surrender and not have so much pressure on myself.

When are you moving into a new house? Have you selected an agency to work with?

You are not weird…loved Dr. Quinn when it was on….such quality television.

    • Reply Amanda June 10, 2014 at 9:36 am

Thanks Jenna! 🙂 I can totally see you loving Dr. Quinn!

Great list! I’m very excited for you for all of the great things going on, but I’m sorry that it’s been a tough week. And, really, why is it when it’s tough that EVERYONE decides to announce their pregnancy? Why?

    • Reply Amanda June 10, 2014 at 9:39 am

Thanks for your encouragement. At this point, I feel like EVERY week is a new barrage of pregnancy announcements…I am thinking about leaving Facebook altogether for a few months to try and avoid it all.

Dr. Quinn was one of my favorites shows growing up. Our whole family watched every episode together. Happy memories. I’m glad you found the show. Way to go with your progress on your adoption application! One step closer!! I’m glad Friday’s talk cheered you up. 🙂

    • Reply Amanda June 10, 2014 at 9:42 am

That’s awesome that everyone watched it together! It’s totally a family show and I wish I would’ve known about it back in the 90’s. No idea what I was doing…maybe watching Saved By the Bell or something. Thanks for your encouragement with the paperwork…we keep trucking away one paper at a time. It will wrap up soon enough here. And yes, Friday really cheered me up. I don’t know if I realized how vital it is to connect with you gals who “get” this whole IF thing first hand. What we can offer one another through support and understanding is unique and a treasure to me. Thanks lady! 🙂

Loved our google+ hang out TONS and can’t wait to do it again!!

“I sort of thought it would probably be great if ALL parents had to do what we’ve had to do for adoption.” <– I totally said the exact same thing after filling out all of our adoption paperwork!

Really looking forward to reading your post about how you got great deals and furnished your new house! Ahh! You have a house!! 😀
