Building Our Family Piece by Piece: Day Six

August 19, 2014

Six days down.

Three more to go until the day we hope to meet our funding goal of nearly $13,000 for the home study completion and out-of-state agency fee.

On Monday things slowed down significantly on the puzzle fundraiser…which we sort of anticipated right as we are about to enter the home stretch!

If I am being totally honest, I am feeling incredibly vulnerable.

I know God will provide for our family if this is his will. But through this fundraiser I’ve been reflecting on the fact that due to medical issues, we won’t bring a biological baby home without help. We need God, doctors, treatments, etc. to even have a CHANCE at that. Same thing with adoption…we can’t even do that alone either. God told us not to. We need him and you.

In our culture today, to need to rely on others is a humbling thing. Real humbling. But we’ve fundraised our income for over 7 years, so haven’t I gotten over the humility? Sure, in some ways. But this is different. The ability for me to become a mother or Jonathan a father lies in God and your hands…not our own. That’s an entirely new level of inviting others to help. It can be embarrassing.

But I choose to stand in the fact that God invited us to take a leap of faith….

To ask others to join us as we walk through the adoption process. To give others a concrete way to say YES to life by supporting a birth family who CHOSE adoption instead of abortion. To give others a concrete way to say YES to life by supporting a couple who CHOSE adoption instead of artificial reproduction.

Vulnerably we stand. A week into our puzzle fundraiser. Dependent on the heroic generosity of others and the Lord. Trusting his plans will exceed our own.

That’s a deep reflection, I know, but I felt like it just needed to be shared to truly bring you all into this experience. I don’t think ours is a story often told and we want to allow others to take a peak into the beauty of adoption.

Back to the puzzle 🙂

Although it was a slow day, here is the progress we saw Monday:

On day six we sold a total of 13 puzzle pieces, totaling $325!! Progress is progress so we are happy!

SO MUCH PROGRESS TODAY! 🙂 I am loving seeing this come together.

Again we are beyond humbled and grateful. In the beginning we were nervous, thinking we shouldn’t ask for any financial assistance in this endeavor. God made it clear though he wanted us to make ourselves vulnerable in this way and to ask others to join us. Thank you for those who are along for the ride and are cheering us on.

Thank you again for all who are joining Team Baby Teixeira! :)

Building Our Family Piece by Piece: Day Three

August 16, 2014

Three days down.

Seven more to go until the day we hope to meet our funding goal of nearly $13,000 for the home study completion and out-of-state agency fee.

I just want to say how humbled and thankful we are to everyone who’s participated thus far.

New friends. Old friends. Family. Neighbors. People we’ve never even met.

I am truly in awe at the goodness of others. That is saying a LOT since we’ve fundraised our paychecks for seven years now and we know incredibly generous people. The support and positive reactions from others has been amazing and we will have quite the story for our precious little one that I am sure they will want to hear time and time again…the story of how many people loved them before ever meeting face to face.

We had more puzzle pieces purchased on Friday and the progress is below!

On day three we sold a total of 29 puzzle pieces, totaling $725!!

Total overall stats thus far are as follows:

  • 286 pieces sold

  • $7,150 raised

  • 55% of current goal of $13,000

  • 29% of original goal of $25,000

The Adoption Puzzle is Here!

June 25, 2014

We are publicly kick-starting our plans to adopt and giving you TWO ways in which you can help our family grow. We talked about finding a birth mother in the first post. Now, we’ll explore the second way you can help.

The Puzzle Fundraiser!!!

puzzle.jpg

Y’all know that adoption is not cheap. We’re intentional stewards of the money God gives us to manage but no…we don’t have a spare $30,000 laying in the bank for adoption.

With time we could save that amount on our own but through praying about this for the past several months, we feel a strong call to invite others to help us financially in bringing our babe home. In our self-sufficient society, we hear God asking us specifically to make ourselves vulnerable in this way…as if sharing our infertility story hasn’t been humbling enough!

“Religion that is pure and undefiled before God and the Father is this: to care for orphans* and widows in their affliction…” James 1:27

If there is one theme that has been showing up in our prayer, it’s that God is writing a story here and we are simply along for the ride and need to hold on tight. This adoption is not just a means of growing our family. It can be a way to bring The Body of Christ together to answer God’s call to care for a child in need of parents. Who are we to prevent YOU from being able to answer this call in a concrete way by supporting our adoption efforts financially? For many, perhaps even yourself, this will be the only chance to care for a child in this situation in an up close and personal way and we invite you to come alongside us in this journey.

*When we use see this term orphan, we are in no way implying that birth families are abandoning their child. That’s really not how adoption works. It’s an intentionally chosen path the birth family moves towards BUT in the end the child does need parents to raise them and that is who they are looking for.

Here’s how it works:

  • We have designed  a beautiful 1,000 piece puzzle
  • Each piece can be purchased for a $25 donation or more
  • You can buy one or many puzzle pieces
  • Your name and personalized message (optional) will be written on the pieces you purchase scaled to size
After the puzzle is completed, we will frame the puzzle between two pieces of glass and hang it in our child’s room. This will be a wonderful keepsake to see all the people who loved Baby Teixeira before he/she was even born!
